Topics

This section uses selected documents to explore important themes in the history of Ann Arbor and the Broadway Bridge area. Each topic includes a brief introduction and, in most instances, two or three subheadings tochoose from. For example, the African-American Community includes the subheadings: Associations, the Underground Railroad, and Daily life.

Topics were designed for elementary, high school, and college teachers designing lesson plans and for high school and college students beginning research projects. Most of the topics are written for students with at least a high school reading level, but some make extensive use of audio clips and photographs to engage the interest of younger learners.

The linked documents are also located within the Archives, along with many other documents on a wide range of issues. Once you've explored the various topics, we encourage you to use the Archives to explore your interests. Please share your ideas with us in the Educators' Section response board.
