The Underground Railroad

Starkweather Farm

Here is view of what used to be the Starkweather Farm, a stop on the Underground Railroad before the Civil War.  George McCoy, a tobacco farmer who rented from the Starkweathers, lived on this property and assisted fugitive slaves trying to get to Canada.  You can still see the Starkweather home on Huron River Drive next to the River.
